After meeting Ian Baptiste,I thought I would try and find and photograph some of my old clubbing haunts in Central London from the mid 70's and eighties. These clubs were definately playing the best in the exclusive Soul,Funk,Disco,Boogie, Jazz and Jazz-Fusion,as opposed to the typical "All dayer Anthem type" clubs.I managed to recognise a few of them, but as they say " Time never stands still".Unfortunately I didnt have enough time to photograph other places such as Billies(Meard St),Spats(Oxford St)and Jean Pierres(" OBJ's" at 49 Greek St),but was fun just to see the changes now I that I am a foreigner.
While I was on holiday in London ,I was walking down Oxford St and I suprised to meet an old dancing buddy of mine Ian Baptiste. This guy was a real dancing legend in my humble opinion.I would travel from South London with my buddies to the renowned Saturday Lunchtime session at the 100 club in the late 70's just to see this guy do his thing.
Chris (Standing in Photo) will be my special guest Dj on Sunday the 8th June at 14:00 hours(13:00GMT).
If you are searching for those hard to find tracks you must check out his site DeepTrax Records, click on my links for more details.
Or,if you are fortunate enough to live in Leeuwarden just come to the shop, you will not be disappointed.
I was looking out of my new house window in Leeuwarden January 2002 not really knowing what to expect living in the Netherlands, or if any of my future plans would happen over here, its now 2008 and my plans are at last in motion .
I am part of a music collaboration called 12 Handz Music, and my other partner is Basil Funki B.We have just managed to start up our own independent internet radio station for our company. We had acquired our broadcasting skills as regular djs at the internet station UK-Rumble in the late 90's,thanks to the love and support from Dj Marcia Carr and Alex Briley.
Basil was instrumental in acquiring our web streaming server support and setting up our station.Wheras I was busy with our website design ( Major thanks to Xiphiuz) ,and also I was making / producing music under the guidance and help from Maurice Muller(Soundmatrics Music Technology).I now have a busy local Djing schedule, and with the technical knowledge I had acquired with Maurice ,I would help local artists with downmixing their music/dance performance projects at my studio.
Basil and I believe there is still an untold story about the real underground Inner London dance scene that happened in the 70's and 80's.The Inner London Soul /Funk and Reggae scene was also instrumental in creating an important underground dance network and culture which is now enjoyed by everyone. But has never received the true acknowledgement and accolade it deserved.
Therefore our platform is trying to spread a little more musical awareness of what really happened in the past because we were part of that scene 24/7, and we also want to play and promote new music of what we think still has that old school quality on our radio station.
